Verena Koay

Verena Koay is a violinist from Penang, Malaysia. She has recently graduated from Royal Birmingham Conservatoire with First Class Honours. During her time at the conservatoire, she won the Herbert Lumby Prize. She was also nominated for the Sheila and Colina Hodge Memorial Prize, a prestigious prize awarded to the best student Violin and Piano duo. In 2022, she recorded and published her debut CD album of Robert Schumann, Clara Schumann and Johannes Brahms. In the summer, she took a Summer Residency at the Wye Valley Chamber Music Festival with the generous Spoff’s Scholarship Fund, during which she worked closely with Robin Michael and Yang Bai as a trio. She is now based in Glasgow and she’s excited for the year ahead with Nevis Ensemble!
