Nevis Ensemble embarked on its inaugural tour between 31 July and 13 August 2018, taking in 70 performances in an intense fortnight of music for Festival 2018, reaching more than 11,000 people. As well as Glasgow, the orchestra gave performances in Argyll and Bute, East Ayrshire, East Dunbartonshire, East Lothian, Edinburgh City, Highland, Inverclyde, North Ayrshire, Scottish Borders, South Ayrshire, West Dunbartonshire, and West Lothian.

Conducted by Holly Mathieson and Jon Hargreaves, the programme included a brand new commission by Royal Conservatoire of Scotland composer, Matthew GrouseAttach.

Other repertoire included excerpts from Stravinsky’s Firebird and Wagner’s Die Walküre, Bartók’s Romanian Dances, Sibelius’ Waltz Triste, Judith Weir’s Still, Glowing and Neil Smith’s Cyched, as well as pop and jazz arrangements, some rip-roaring ceilidh music, and even a bit of Proclaimers as well.
