Musician Auditions | October 2018

Nevis Ensemble is thrilled to announce auditions to join the orchestra for its activities in late 2018 and into 2019.

Interested musicians are asked to complete the Application Form online by Thursday 4 October 2018. We would also ask applicants to complete Equalities Monitoring and return by email to hello@nevisensemble.org

Auditions will take place on Saturday 13 October 2018 in Glasgow. Each audition will last around 20 minutes and include:

  • Short programme of around 7 mins (candidate’s own choice – accompanist available)
  • Two orchestral excerpts (sent in advance)
  • Creative exercise
  • Short discussion

We are looking to fill positions in a number of sections, and increase our pool of deputy musicians, so applications are welcome across all orchestral instruments (including saxophone).

Musicians should be available for upcoming rehearsals and performances on 26 (eve)/27 (all day) October for performances in Edinburgh, and 4-9 December 2018 for a mini-tour of community venues in the North-East of Scotland. Plans for 2019 include a tour of the Hebrides.

The only prerequisites of any Nevis Ensemble musician is that that they be creative, open-minded and collaborative. And above all, open to a challenge. Musicians who have not had a standard entry into the industry are particular encouraged. Applicants should be aged 18+.

Please feel free to enquire at hello@nevisensemble.org if you have any questions about your application.

WHY JOIN NEVIS?

Nevis Ensemble (Artistic Directors, Holly Mathieson and Jon Hargreaves) is different. There’s nothing else quite like it in Scotland. Its vision is ‘music for everyone, everywhere’. And it means business. For musicians, we provide training in working for particular groups, the opportunity to be part of an innovative, fun ensemble, and the chance to change the face of orchestral music in Scotland. Our inaugural tour in August 2018 saw 70 performances in two weeks in venues as diverse as airports and train stations, to homeless shelters and community gardens, with the summit of Ben Nevis and yoga sessions thrown in the middle.

The orchestra concentrates on taking music to people where they are and when they are there popping up and surprising commuters first thing in the morning; entertaining residents in oft-forgotten parts of towns and cities; guerrilla-style appearances in swimming pools; dancing with cashiers in supermarkets. Running alongside this is a carefully plotted patchwork of community-based performances, in a range of contexts covering all parts of society.

Come and join us; it’s an experience you wont forget!

We are always looking for new places to come and perform. If you think you have the perfect organisation or venue to host a fun, exciting concert from a full symphony orchestra, please do get in touch.
