Make Music Tour

Nevis Ensemble is thrilled to get back out on the road, and in front of live audiences to celebrate Make Music Day 2022, conducted by Derrick Morgan. In true Nevis style, the orchestra will be embracing walking, bikes, buses, barges and ferries as it takes performances to communities in Glasgow, West Dunbartonshire, Ardfern and the isles of Mull, Seil and Iona.

Make Music Day, or Fête de la Musique, is an international celebration of music, held each year on 21 June on 125 countries. Nevis Ensemble is excited to contribute these free performances to this worldwide movement, as we celebrate live musical performance in our communities.

On Sunday 19 June, Nevis Ensemble will collaborate with young musicians from Sistema Scotland’s Big Noise Govanhill to give a side-by-side walking tour of seven performances around the Govanhill area of Glasgow, including at Queen’s Park, Govanhill Park, and at Music Broth – Scotland’s Musical Instrument Library – as part of its Refugee Week celebrations.

In partnership with the Dandelion programme of events, Nevis musicians will launch the Floating Gardens tour at Spiers Wharf on Monday 20 June: barges which will visit communities along the Forth & Clyde, and Union canals.

Marking the remarkable achievements of the Youth Music Initiative over the last 20 years, Nevis Ensemble will give performances in four schools in West Dunbartonshire following a five-month project where Nevis musicians wrote songs with almost 250 pupils across the local authority, who will perform alongside the orchestra.
