Tell us a little bit about yourself and your life. Not necessarily music-related!

I am Kris, a 25 year old Belgian girl that moved to Scotland in November 2018. I live in Glasgow at the moment, and I LOVE it!

I finished my Masters in flute in Maastricht (The Netherlands) and my teaching degree in Antwerp (Belgium).

My other passion beside music is hiking! Escaping the busy world and finding rest in the mountains is just one of my favourite things to do. This is also one of the reasons I moved to Scotland, the nature and mountains here are just amazing!

Besides that I love reading, travelling, food, whisky, Land Rover defenders and corgis!

How did you first get into music?

I started playing music when I was 8 years old. My sisters played the clarinet in a harmony orchestra in my hometown. I always went to listen and by the time I could start playing music the only instrument they had available was the flute. So I started to play the flute, and I just loved it from the moment I played my first note.

What made you decide that music would be an important part of your life?

Music is and will always be my way of sharing ideas/thoughts/emotions which I can’t put in words. I am so lucky to have found something that helps me in so many ways.

It makes me happy, it de-stresses me, it makes me a stronger and better human being!

What has been your musical highlight so far?

My biggest highlight so far was playing Mahler’s 6th symphony in the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam with the Netherlands Youth Orchestra. That hall was just amazing to play in. I enjoyed every single second and I hope to play there once again someday!

Who are your favourite composers/artists/musicians?

Stravinsky, Bach, Ibert, Rachmaninoff, Janacek, Mahler, Emmanuel Pahud, Martha Argerich, The Gloaming, Flook, Olafur Arnalds, Lianna La Havas, Max Richter, Tycho, Bonobo

What do you anticipate for the Nevis Ensemble?

Connecting with other musicians is a very important thing to me. The Nevis Ensemble is an amazing group of beautiful, motivated and unique people who love creating and sharing special moments filled with wonderful music.

Being part of that makes me so happy!
