Greek double bassist Evangelos Saklaras started his studies at the age of 25, in Athens. Three years later, he was awarded a scholarship at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London to study with Colin Paris, Co-Principal with the London Symphony Orchestra.
Evangelos performs regularly with ensembles and orchestras in the UK and Greece and shows a particular interest in Historical Performance. He is also a keen jazz performer, improviser and composer and he is involved in various creative projects. Some highlight performances include participation in the London Händel Festival, the Athens-Epidaurus Festival and the EFG London Jazz Festival.
Driven by his passion for making change and social impact through music, Evangelos has worked as a teaching artist with Nucleo, a Sistema-inspired programme in London, for four years. He has led composition workshops in community hubs and schools and has been invited to participate in the Lullaby Project the last four consecutive years. He is also a member of the ImPossibilities Collective and a Global Leaders Program alumnus.
