In December 2019, we were asked by Glasgow Life and New Practice to help launch the public consultation of the Glasgow Culture Plan. What better way to draw in the public than by having Nevis perform!?
We also had our first soloist in the form of international mezzo soprano Andrea Baker, who wowed our audiences and become a true part of the ensemble.
“These folks are the real deal. Life changing tour. Thank you!”
Andrea Baker, mezzo soprano

Andrea Baker, mezzo soprano
Described as possessing a “luscious and full-bodied tone” (Das Opernglas), British-American mezzo-soprano Andrea Baker is renowned for her distinctive voice, intense artistry, and passion. Highlights of her international appearances include the title role Carmen for Opera Australia, Serena in Porgy and Bess for the Berlin Philharmonic and Edinburgh International Festival, 1st Norn in Götterdämmerung BBC Proms (Runnicles), Herodias in Salome with the London Symphony Orchestra (Hickox)
This three-day tour took us around Glasgow and Ayrshire (during the wettest weekend of the year!), visiting lots of new venues, including the Scottish War Blinded Centre in Paisley, James McFarlane School in Saltcoats and East Ayrshire Carers, and went back to old favourites Refuweegee, Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and Princes Square. In Nevis firsts, we also gave performances in a bowling alley and at a beer festival!
The torrential rain saw a couple of performances cancelled, meaning we didn’t quite reach our 200th performance, but we’ll let you know when it happens!
