Today we’re introducing our third new staff member, Marie Driver. Marie is responsible for making sure that everything we organise runs as smoothly as possible, from organising spaces for us to rehearse in to helping our Fellows to build links with partner organisations.

Tell us about yourself.
Hi I’m Marie, I’m from the Scottish Borders. I tend to spend weekends either away in the highlands or doing some sort of music-making.
What have you done before you’ve worked for Nevis?
Before starting at Nevis I was working freelance in the arts so a mixture of things including running a community choir, festival work, and project coordination.
What attracted you to Nevis?
I was attracted to Nevis because of the inclusive ethos, and the importance placed on creating both socially and environmentally conscious music. Also because the tours looked like great fun!
Do you play any instruments?
I sing mostly, but play a little bit of fiddle.
What kind of music do you like?
A mix – I come from a classical background and I do love the rep. I’m also a big fan of electronic trad – Niteworks and such. Lately I’ve been getting more into K-pop which is cool.
What are you looking forward to doing in your job?
I’m really looking forward to seeing the Nevis Ensemble in action as a street orchestra, taking live music to places where it’s not often heard. I am also excited about getting to see lots of Scotland on tours, as well as supporting the longer-term project based work.
