Wednesday 14 April | Helene Lunde Heggstad

For her #100DaysOfGreenNevis project, clarinetist Helene Lunde Heggstad is creating a Spotify playlist with music related to all things environmental.

We first heard from Helene on day sixteen of the campaign. You can read her post here.

As I continue to search for green music I have discovered some wonderful songs and pieces. However, I must admit that it is difficult to find inspiration these days, and I have not been adding songs every day. Although I’m a bit behind, I will keep adding songs, so please follow the list!

A tribute to Chick Corea is on the list, and so are Beethoven, Queen, Philip Glass and hopefully some artists you haven’t heard of before. I want to give a special mention to the track ‘Sintra’ by Snarky. This is from the album ‘Sylva’, and each track on this album is about a forest (sylva means forest). I would recommend this whole album is you like ‘Sintra’!

One of the first songs of the list is ‘The Seed’ by the Norwegian singer AURORA. This song is a very clear message and is definitely worth a listen. Here is a short video of the opening melody of ‘The Seed’.

Helene plays an excerpt from ‘The Seed’ by AURORA.

From 1 February 2021, Nevis is running #100DaysOfGreenNevis, where our musicians, staff and trustees will each take on a task for 100 days linked to Sustainability. We’d love you to join us, either by following the campaign online to get ideas of what you can do, or to show us you own actions for us to share. If you would like to know more, do get in touch at

Nevis Ensemble’s #GreenNevis campaign in 2019 won the Environmental Sustainability award at the 2020 Scottish Awards for New Music, and was shortlisted for Best Campaign by Julie’s Bicycle.
