Nevis French horn player and Admin Assistant Joey O’Neill and trombonist Jésus Lorente González have teamed up to cycle ‘500 Miles’ (oh yes!) each to raise funds for Trees for Life.

“We decided to team up for our 100 days, and between us cycle 1000 miles for Trees for Life. We’re both very keen cyclists, and were it not for Covid would be out on regular cycling adventures together. So far we’ve cycled just under 80 miles – we’re going to have to play a bit of catchup once Storm Darcy clears off!

Trees for Life are committed to rewilding the Scottish Highlands by planting trees, reintroducing wildlife like red squirrels, and protecting existing forests. As well as cycling, we both love walking and climbing Scotland’s many mountains and hills, so this cause is really important to us! If you’d like to support us by donating to Trees for life, our fundraiser link is here.“
So far, they have raised £375! Well done to you both!
From 1 February 2021, Nevis is running #100DaysOfGreenNevis, where our musicians, staff and trustees will each take on a task for 100 days linked to Sustainability. We’d love you to join us, either by following the campaign online to get ideas of what you can do, or to show us you own actions for us to share. If you would like to know more, do get in touch at georgina@nevisensemble.org
Nevis Ensemble’s #GreenNevis campaign in 2019 won the Environmental Sustainability award at the 2020 Scottish Awards for New Music, and was shortlisted for Best Campaign by Julie’s Bicycle.
