Nevis Ensemble will embark on its first international in Summer 2020, generously supported by The Scottish Government’s International Creative Ambition Programme, as announced on Friday by Secretary for Culture, Fiona Hyslop MSP.
This tour will see the orchestra give 55 performances in some of the continent’s key cities, including Amsterdam, Berlin, Brussels, and Paris, as well as Glasgow, Edinburgh and London.
The tour will celebrate Scotland’s place as a European nation, and as such will visit the three key cities of the EU – Brussels, Luxembourg and Strasbourg.
Along the way, we will visit smaller towns and cities ensuring that as many people as possible have the Nevis experience.
As in Scotland, Nevis Ensemble will perform in both public spaces (town squares, shopping streets, museums, train stations and places of natural beauty), and community venues (care homes, hospitals, prisons, community centres, and homeless centres).
As part of the tour, we will commission new music from three composers: one in Scotland, and one from two other European nations.
We will collaborate with local conservatoires, professional groups, and amateur orchestras and choirs, and work to build links through performance between Scotland and other European nations.
